The National Park of Pieniny (PIENAP)

The National Park of Pieniny (PIENAP) is the smallest of the Slovak National Parks, but as far as its beauty concerns, it is in no way less beautiful. It is the second oldest Park in Slovakia. It stretches on the border with Poland; the river Dunajec passes through it. In 1932 it was declared as a first international park in Europe to create mutual protection of nature.  It is possible to hire a raft and admire the wonderful scenery of the Park navigating down the river. Červený kláštor is a unique cultural and historical relic set in the wonderful natural environment of Pieniny under the majestic mountain Tri koruny. The monastery was successfully restored in the years 1956-1966. The best building, from an architectural point of view, is the Gothic church of St Anton from the end of the 14th century with one nave of unusual length restored in the Baroque style. The main altar is in the Baroque style, built in 1745.

The Dunajec enters a wonderful canyon next to Červený Kláštor called Prielom Dunajca. It forms frequent but not insuperable cascades in this place. Rafting on this river is also suitable for less experienced persons.

Rafting on wooden rafts on this river has recently become a much sought after attraction for tourists on the common Slovak-Polish river reach of the Dunajec. During the summer season sightseeing trips on wooden rafts are organized by various associations and organizations which offer it on different reaches of the river with a varied length. You can enjoy the rafting from April till October. After the rafting there is a possibility to have a barbeque listening to the charming goral music.
